(2 Tim 2:22)
When Paul tells Timothy to ‘pursue’ righteousness he uses the Greek word diōke which means ‘set into flight.’
This reminds me of Isaiah 40:31
Those who trust in the LORD will renew their strength
They will rise on wings like eagles.
If you are in Christ, empowered by the Spirit, you are like an eagle soaring through the heavens.
When Paul tells Tmothy to pursue righteousness, he doesn’t mean his own righteousness.
Paul knew that all our righteous deeds are as filthy rags to God and that God’s righteousness comes as a free gift to all who believe.
No, what Paul was telling Timothy was exactly the same as Isaiah.
You are a child of God. He has dressed you in a robe of His righteousness.
Now trust in the LORD, set it into flight, and fly!
