Sanctified by Faith.

I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and witness… that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

– Acts 26:14-18

Sanctified how?

By our own desire to be holy? By our own desire to be righteous? By striving and working? By stressing and battling to overcome sin?

No.

Santicified ‘by faith in me.’

We are sanctified by faith.

Remember the amazing verse in Hebrews:

We have been made holy by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ one for all.

– Hebrews 10:10

and

By one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who have been made holy.

– Hebrews 10:14

This concept of being righteous by faith blew Paul away.

All those years of trying to become righteous before God by obeying the law.

In fact, Paul declares in Philippians he was a ‘flawless’ Pharisee. But that was nothing, he said, compared to the righteousness he received as a gift through faith in God.

He was righteous by faith! And so are we!

When we become Christians we are set free. Free from the power of sin. Sin no longer has the power to kill us. Before it did. Before we gave our sin, supernaturally, to Christ on the cross, it was killing us.

The wages of sin, says Paul, is death.

But now, we have no sin. Like Christ, before God we are sinless.

Now, does this mean we won’t make mistakes, we won’t mess up, we won’t ‘sin’ ever again?

Of course not. But it means that God will never, ever count it against us.

We will face earthly consequences for our sin. Yet we will not face eternal consequences. Jesus paid the penalty for all of our sin, for all time, once for all, on the cross.

This is why GRACE is is so amazing.

We are completely and utterly free – free from the law of sin, free from punishment, free from condemnation.

There is, therefore, now NO CONDEMNATION for those who are in Christ Jesus.

– Romans 8:1

The moment we sin it sizzles away into nothingness, like a drop of water into a raging fire.

The drop of water is our sin. The raging fire is God’s love.

The raging fire, the consuming fire, is Christ on the cross.

His love consumes our sin the moment it taints us.

This is why John says:

Whoever is born of God does not commit sin, for his nature remains in him. And he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

– 1 John 5:18

Could John be any clearer?

We CANNOT sin!

Why?

Because His nature remains in us. His Spirit.

We are draped in a robe of His righteousness.

Christ lives in us.

He is our righteousness.

The moment we sin, He goes to the father in our defence. We don’t go. He goes for us. And reminds our Father of His once for all sacrifice on our behalf.

By one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who have been made holy.

We are perfect forever.

Perfect, righteous and holy.

He has done it.

All we must do is believe.

Sanctified by faith.

Amen!
